Weekend notebook: Ferrari still on top in Australia
28 July 2025
Bad weather didn’t hold back the two Ferrari 296 GT3s of Arise Racing GT competing in the GT World Challenge Australia. The number 26 car, thanks to a win and a third place, kept hold of the lead in the overall standings.
GT World Challenge Australia. The outcome of the fourth round of the series was undoubtedly a positive one for Arise Racing GT, which left the two races at Sandown Raceway with first place in the consolidated Pro Am standings. The leaders of the rankings, Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte in the number 26 Ferrari 296 GT3, were among the protagonists over the weekend, in a round marked by cold, humidity and the constant threat of rain. In Race-1, Evans and Schutte, having started from third, managed to bring home the win at the end of a hotly contested race. The second race also offered no shortage of thrills: Evans, starting from pole position, slipped to fourth and stayed there until the Safety Car entry – called out to neutralise the group following several incidents caused by the slippery rain-soaked track. After the restart, Evans handed over the steering wheel to Schutte, who rejoined in second. Despite a 15-second pit stop penalty, the number 26 Ferrari continued to push, eventually securing third place. At the end of the weekend, Evans-Schutte kept their lead on 160 points, ahead of their closest rivals on 120.
There was a solid showing too from Arise Racing GT’s second car, the number 77 of Steve Wyatt and Jordan Love, who had taken pole in the first qualifying session. The crew battled throughout the race, finishing sixth. In Race-2, the number 77 Ferrari 296 GT3 started from third place but a spin on the opening lap saw the pairing drop back to thirteenth. Staying focused, Wyatt and then Love began their recovery, eventually crossing the line seventh. The next GT World Challenge Australia outing is scheduled for 5 to 7 September on the circuit at The Bend.
