The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps will see three Ferraris start at the front in the third round of the FIA WEC 2025, thanks to the result achieved by the number 50 499P with Antonio Fuoco, who will lead the starting grid ahead of the number 83 car from AF Corse, qualified by Robert Kubica, and the other Ferrari – AF Corse official car entrusted to Antonio Giovinazzi. For the third time in as many rounds this season, the Prancing Horse will start from pole position, as was already the case in both Qatar and Italy, in tomorrow’s race, Saturday, 10 May, at 2.00 p.m. (local time).
Qualifying. In the opening timed session, held under clear skies with ambient and track temperatures at around 16°C and 38°C respectively, the red-liveried Ferraris claimed first and fourth positions. Fuoco topped the session with a lap of 2’00”108, while Giovinazzi clocked a time +0”468 off the pace.
The number 83 499P placed third, securing a place in the decisive segment to determine the starting grid. Kubica completed a lap of the 7.004-kilometre Belgian circuit in 2’00”539.
Hyperpole. During the 12-minute session reserved for the top ten cars, Ferrari again dominated the head of the standings. Fuoco – sharing the number 50 car with Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen – improved his time to a session-best 1’59”617. Second, just 0”347 adrift, was the Giallo Modena-liveried number 83 499P, driven by Kubica alongside Phil Hanson and Ferrari official driver Yifei Ye. Giovinazzi, partnered with Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado, secured third place, 0”584 off the lead.
Stats. This marks Ferrari’s third consecutive pole position in the 2025 season. The result at Spa follows Hyperpole wins for the number 51 499P at Lusail and Imola, both secured by Giovinazzi. The number 50 crew now claims its fourth Hyperpole – adding to those achieved with Fuoco at Sebring and Le Mans in 2023, and again at Imola in 2024. In total, the 499P has secured seven pole positions since its race debut in 2023.
History. Ferrari returns to the front of the top class field at Spa-Francorchamps 52 years after its last pole at the circuit. The most recent instance dates back to the 1973 World Sportscar Championship season, when Jacky Ickx and Brian Redman secured pole in the 312 PB. The year before, in 1972, Prancing Horse also locked out the front with a qualifying triple: Ickx-Regazzoni in first, followed by Redman-Merzario and Tim Schenken-Ronnie Peterson.
Programme. The third round of the FIA WEC 2025 gets underway tomorrow, Saturday, 10 May, at 2 p.m. with the chequered flag set to wave at 8 p.m. (local time).
