Weekend preview: GT World Challenge Asia kicks off with five Ferrari entries

Following rounds in America and Australia, the GT World Challenge Asia series kicks off its season at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia – a weekend that also doubles as the opening round of the China Cup. Five Maranello cars will be on the grid: four Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo cars and one Ferrari 296 GT3, all with title ambitions.

GT World Challenge Asia. Two of the Prancing Horse line-up will compete in the Pro-Am class. Indonesian driver Andy Tan and Dutch driver Thierry Vermeulen will share the Ferrari 296 GT3 of Absolute Corse, while New Zealander Brandon Leitch and Song Jiajun will drive the Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo of Chinese team Winhere Harmony Racing. The sister car, number 96, crewed by Deng Yi and Liu Kaishun, is entered in the Silver class.

The Silver-Am class also features a Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo, with local team 33R Harmony Racing fielding the number 13 car for Sun JingZu and Adderly Fong, who are also competing in the China Cup.

In the Am class, Garage 75 returns, chasing an unprecedented third consecutive title, with reigning champions David Tjiptobiantoro and Christian Colombo at the wheel of the new number 75 Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo.

Programme. The two qualifying sessions are scheduled for Saturday 4 April at 10.25 a.m. and 10.47 a.m., with Race-1, over a one-hour duration, starting at 2.15 p.m. On Sunday 5 April, Race-2, over 60 minutes plus one lap, gets underway at 11.30 a.m. All times are local.
