Weekend preview: Ferrari chasing Asian Le Mans Series title in Abu Dhabi
The two races of the final round of the Asian Le Mans Series, scheduled for this weekend at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, will decide the season titles and secure an automatic invitation to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Kessel Racing’s number 74 Ferrari 296 GT3 leads the GT standings and will be joined by five further Maranello entries. The crews remain largely unchanged from the Dubai round and include three Prancing Horse official drivers.
Asian Le Mans Series. Thanks to two victories at Sepang and Dubai, together with a run of consistently strong results, Chris Lulham, Dennis Marschall and Dustin Scott Blattner top the GT drivers’ standings at the wheel of Kessel Racing’s number 74 Ferrari 296 GT3. The trio arrive in Abu Dhabi with a 21-point advantage over their closest rivals ahead of the two four-hour races, which offer a total of 52 points. The Swiss team will also field a second car, the number 15 Ferrari, crewed by Alessandro Balzan, Dylan Medler and Memo Gidley.
AF Corse will also enter two Ferraris. Ferrari official driver Davide Rigon is once again joined by French driver Charly Samani and Sean Galael in the number 51 Ferrari, which finished fourth in the opening round at Sepang. Meanwhile, in the number 21, the other Ferrari official driver Alessio Rovera shares driving duties with Simon Mann and Darren Leung, who secured a podium finish in the first race at Dubai last week.
Tommaso Mosca is the third Prancing Horse official driver competing at Yas Marina, sharing the number 50 Amerasian Fragrance by AF Racing entry with Gregory Slatin Bennett and Carl Wattana Bennett.
The number 54 Ferrari will run in the colours of Vista AF Corse. After finishing fifth in Dubai, Francesco Castellacci is again at the wheel for the final round, joined by Riccardo Agostini and Custodio Toledo.
The programme features GT qualifying on Saturday 7 February at 10.10 a.m., followed by Race 1 at 3 p.m. The season concludes on Sunday, 8 February with qualifying again at 10.10 a.m., before the second four-hour race begins at 4.30 p.m. All times are local.
