Weekend preview: Italian GT Sprint champions to be decided at Monza

The Monza circuit hosts the final and decisive round of the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint Championship. In contention for the Pro Am tricolour are Lorenzo Ferrari and Mahaveer Raghunathan with the Ferrari 296 GT3 of AF Corse, together with teammates Leonardo Colavita and Ibrahim Badawi. In GT Cup, Lorenzo Pegoraro and Filippo Croccolino with the Ferrari 296 Challenge of Best Lap, three points behind the leaders, are still in the running for the final victory.
CIGT Sprint. The final round of the Sprint series’ sporting season will be contested at the Autodromo Nazionale in Monza, with ten cars from the Maranello manufacturer on the track across GT3 and GT Cup. Three Ferrari 296 GT3 cars will feature in the GT3 class, two of them fielded by AF Corse. The pairing of Lorenzo Ferrari and Mahaveer Raghunathan, in number 51, are chasing the title in the Pro Am category, just two points behind the leader. At Monza, in number 62, will also be Leonardo Colavita and Ibrahim Badawi (already Endurance winners together with David Vidales), likewise in contention for the final win, five points adrift of the leaders. Target Racing will be on the track, among the Am competitors, with the Ferrari 296 GT3 number 39 of Chinese driver Huilin Han.
In GT Cup, seven Ferraris will be on track, three of them 296 Challenge cars competing in Division 1. In Pro Am, Lorenzo Pegoraro and Filippo Croccolino, in the number 111 of team Best Lap, are nurturing title hopes, just three points behind the leading pair. Also competing at Monza, in Am, will be Emiliano Pierantoni and Lorenzo Nicoli in number 212 of MRNC12, and Pierluigi Alessandri in number 244 of DL Racing.
In Division 2, in the Pro Am class, MRNC12 will hand the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo number 412 to Riccardo Paniccià and 17-year-old German driver Montego Maasen, making his debut in Italian GT. In the Am class, at Monza we will see Mattia Simonini in the number 510 of team Promotorsport, while the number 505 of Marchetti-Massaro will represent Scuderia Emme. For SR&R, on the track with number 533, will be Lyle Schofield.
The weekend programme features GT Cup official practice sessions on Saturday at 9.15 a.m., followed at 10.50 a.m. by those of the GT3, which will set the starting grids for the two races.
GT Cup Race-1 will start at 1.50 p.m., while at 4.10 p.m. it will be the turn of the GT3, both run over a distance of 50 minutes plus one lap. On Sunday, the same format repeats with Race-2 for both classes. at 10.30 a.m. the GT Cup race will get underway, followed by the GT3 at 1.30 p.m.
