Comments after the Lone Star Le Mans
Austin 08 September 2025
Ferrari leaves the United States, host of the Lone Star Le Mans, sixth round of the FIA WEC 2025, with second place for the 499P number 50 and fifth for the other Ferrari – AF Corse car, number 51. The Ferrari number 83 of AF Corse finishes seventh and wins the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams title.
Here are the statements at the end of the race.
Antonio Fuoco, 499P #50: “I think this was the race with the toughest conditions since we entered this championship. We did a great job; it was very important not to make mistakes and bring home a lot of points compared to our rivals. We were a bit unlucky in the last Full Course Yellow, finding ourselves behind a car that was going slowly, otherwise we could have fought for the win.”
Miguel Molina, 499P #50: “It was a tough race given the conditions in which it was contested, but we gave it our all and this second place is positive both for the manufacturers’ and drivers’ championships. I’m pleased with the work done, and now I look ahead with confidence to the next round at Fuji.”
Nicklas Nielsen, 499P #50: “We hoped to achieve a bit more, but second place at the end of a race like this, affected by truly difficult weather conditions, is a great result because we made no mistakes and were able to make the most of the 499P’s potential. We leave COTA with many valuable points for the world championship standings, looking ahead with optimism to the last two rounds of the season.”
Alessandro Pier Guidi, 499P #51: “It’s hard to see the positive side in a race like this. I believe the move at the restart (by the Porsche, Ed.) was not correct, both before the finish line, where it’s not allowed to stay alongside another car, and in turn one, where I had left plenty of space and there was contact that affected our race due to the puncture. In the end, I tried to do my best to recover, and finishing fifth, I think, is almost a miracle.”
James Calado, 499P #51: “We raced in very difficult conditions, keeping the car on track was really tricky. Despite this, we did everything as well as possible, with a great car to rely on. I managed to take the lead and then my teammates were doing an excellent job, until the puncture stopped us from fighting for the win. Finishing fifth today is something extraordinary considering how the race had developed, and the points we earned are very important because they allow us to consolidate first place in the standings.”
Antonio Giovinazzi, 499P #51: “It’s a shame because we were in a great position to try and win but then came a puncture after very light contact. Now we’re thinking about the next race at Fuji, which certainly won’t be easy, but we’ll give our best with the goal of bouncing straight back.”
Yifei Ye, 499P #83: “It was a bittersweet race for us. Of course, starting from the pole position we were aiming for more, but unfortunately we ran into several issues during the race. It's frustrating because we had a very strong car this weekend, but we didn't score as many points as we should have. However, we still managed to win the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams, which is great. We will be back in top shape at Fuji and will fight hard in the last two races of the season”.
Antonello Coletta, Global Head of Ferrari Endurance and Corse Clienti: “We leave COTA happy to have strengthened our lead in the standings of the World Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ Championships, but disappointed with the outcome for crew number 51, firmly in the lead of the race before being hit from behind and suffering a puncture that forced the drivers into a big comeback at the end. A special mention also to the AF Corse team, which here in America celebrates the FIA World Cup for Hypercar Teams title after having sealed victory at Le Mans, once again proving competitive in the overall standings, starting from pole position and running a strong race.”
Ferdinando Cannizzo, Head of Ferrari Endurance Race Cars: “At the end of a very tough race complicated by extreme conditions, I want to congratulate the whole team for preparing and managing this race in an exemplary way, once again showing the versatility and potential of the 499P. The second place of car number 50 and the fifth of number 51, thanks to a splendid comeback from last after the contact and puncture, nevertheless allow us to consolidate first place in the manufacturers’ championship, something undoubtedly very important.”
