Weekend preview: Ferrari chasing victories in America, Europe and Japan
Maranello 19 September 2025
An intense weekend for the cars from the Maranello manufacturer, in contention for the title or for a win, as protagonists in four major international championships: from IMSA in the United States with the celebrated “Battle on the Bricks” at Indianapolis (with six official drivers), to the GT World Challenge Sprint Cup at Valencia (with three official drivers) and three cars in contention for overall victory, moving on to the penultimate round of the International GT Open at Barcelona and the Super GT in Japan.
IMSA. Ferrari looks to continue its late-season momentum when the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship travels to hallowed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Seven Ferrari 296 GT3 entries fielded by six teams will compete in Sunday’s Battle on the Bricks, with Ferraris scoring two victories among podium finishes in each of the most recent four events leading into the penultimate round of the campaign.
Six Ferrari factory drivers will compete, with Ferrari fielding contenders in both GT3 classes in the six-hour event at America’s most historic motorsports venue.
Round 10 of 11 also serves as the fourth of five races in the IMSA Endurance Cup, with six Ferrari drivers tied for the lead in the competition that also features classic endurance races at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta.
DragonSpeed returns with the No. 81 Ferrari 296 GT3 for Albert Costa and Ferrari factory driver Davide Rigon. The pair are coming off a runner-up finish at VIR, missing the victory by 1.070 seconds. The result extended their podium streak to four races, including a victory at Mosport.
Costa stays second in the championship, trailing by 53 points with two events remaining.
Five teams are entered in the GTD category for Pro-Am lineups – which sees the six Ferraris the most of any manufacturer in IMSA’s most competitive class – including a two-car entry for Triarsi Competizione,.
Owner/driver Onofrio Triarsi and Kenton Koch return to the No. 023 Ferrari of Central Florida / David SW / RTS entry, joining factory pilot James Calado. Triarsi and Koch were winners at Road America and placed second at VIR, both at the wheel of the team’s No. 021 Ferrari of Central Florida 296 GT3. That car is entered at Indy with drivers to be announced.
Koch is third in the GTD points, 228 points in arrears, while Manny Franco and Daniel Serra are seventh.
Franco and factory driver Serra join Ben Tuck in the No. 34 Corsa Horizon 296 GT3. Franco and Serra took third at Laguna Seca and Road America earlier this year.
The No. 70 Inception Racing entry will be driven by Brendan Iribe, Frederik Schandorff and Ollie Millroy. The trio share the class lead in the Endurance Cup with 27 points, propelled by two segment victories in the Daytona 24 Hours. Schandorff turned in the fastest race lap at VIR, finishing 11th due to a late pit stop.
Completing the Ferrari entry are two teams running in the five Endurance Cup events. AF Corse will have the No. 21 296 GT3 for Ferrari factory drivers Lilou Wadoux and Alessandro Pier Guidi, joined by Simon Mann. The three drivers share the Endurance Cup lead, winning two segments at Sebring and one at Watkins Glen.
Cetilar Racing has the blue No. 47 for Lorenzo Patrese, Nicola Lacorte and factory driver Antonio Fuoco.
Ferrari has two major sports car victories at Indy, with both victories coming with the Ferrari 458. Jeff Segal and Max Papis won the 2013 Grand-Am event, while Alessandro Balzan and Jeff Westphal were the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship winners in 2014.
The event opens with a 90-minute practice session on Friday, September 19 at 11:15 a.m. (all times ET).
